Lagos Island Local Government Celebrates Retirees

The Executive Chairman Lagos Island Local Government Hon Tijani Adetoyese Olusi Celebrates Year 2022 /2023 Retirees at the Local Government Secretariat Isale Eko on Thursday 14th December, 2023.

The council helmsman Hon Tijani Adetoyese Olusi ably represented by the Supervisor for women and poverty alleviation (WAPA ) Hon Olayinka Bamgbade in her speech welcome all, and prays for continuous good health, sound mind and Long life advised the Retirees to take good care of themselves and should always go for a routine Medical check up at any Health center or LASHMA close to them, cause health is wealth. They should also not depend solely on their children, they should engage themselves in something meaningful and profitable to make ends meet.

Director Post Service Department Local Government Service Commission on Establishment, Training and Pensions Mr Peters Ogunshakin refers to retirement as sweet and bitter experience after 35years in service or 60years retirement age.What life should look like will depend on the individual that retired, advised that the little they receive as pension should be used to engage themselves in profitable business, more so they should acquire skills from skills acquisition center provided by the Government through the department of women affairs and poverty alleviation, (WAPA) and seek for Empowerment funds from the State Government to start up a business or skill acquired. Also extends greetings from the Commission, State Governor to the Retirees and said the Governor has promised to add monetary palliative to what they will be receiving monthly starting from next year 2024.

The Human Resources Officer Mr Abdulrafiu Lawal in his words said before retirement date there should be an adequate preparation by the retiring officer before exit in service that’s 6 month prior to retirement date a Notification Letter should be written, all service documents should be attached and send to the Commission for necessary actions to be taking so that there won’t be a delay in the processing of the payment of their pension. Prays for continuous good health and Best of Luck in their life endeavors.

The H.O.D education and library services Mr Moriu Olufemi Ojikutu in his remarks said the Retirees should engage themselves in trading or business in order to make them active and they should go for regular medical check up to keep them in good health, wish them successful retirement.

In attendance were Supervisor for Budget Hon Hakeem Ajao, Leader of the Legislative Arm Hon Hakeem Ajose, Hon Ajibola Badru, Hon Teslim Adebowale, other Political office holder , Management Team, Nulge executives, staffs of the local government and others were in attendance at the event.
